The Butterfly Effect
by Natasha Winsor
The Butterfly Effect is the theory that a small change in one place can have a very large impact in another place at a later date. The name ‘the butterfly effect’ comes from the theory that a hurricane’s formation is contingent on whether or not a distant butterfly had flapped its wings several weeks earlier.
So bearing this in mind, could it be possible that our actions have an effect somewhere else, or on someone else?Even if we go about our lives in a simple way thinking that we aren’t making a difference, in fact its quite the opposite.Everything we do has a knock on effect.Everything we say can make an impact.Sometimes just making a simple yet obvious comment is enough to make someone think differently.A block in the road taking us off in a different direction. For example, did you know that Hitler applied for art school but was turned down? How different would our world be if Hitler had gone to art school instead?Nelson Mandela was a pure advocate of peace and light and his actions were felt by millions all of the world. If one single person can make such a difference, can you imagine what a group of like minded people are capable of?
Every small action has a re-action, sometimes good and sometimes bad, but what is important is to ensure that everything we do comes from the heart.Don’t underestimate your capabilities. It is only your mind that will limit you so think big and be brave. We’ve all had an experience where things have gone wrong and we don’t understand why, but then later on, even years later, it all makes sense. We realize in hindsight that we were forced down a different path, which took us somewhere we would have never ended up otherwise.
So my advice is to trust the process. We are all put on this earth to learn, grow and experience many different things such as love and compassion. When you try to swim against the current you just get more tired and don’t end up going anywhere, so go with the flow and trust that God, the angels, the universe are watching over you and that there is a master plan in place. We all come pre-programmed with the ability to connect to the purest energy: love.If we learn to harness this energy and use it in everything we do, it spills over into everything and everyone we come into contact with.By strengthening the connection with our higher self and God, we will be able to clearly see and feel our life’s purpose. By developing our connection, we can begin to speak the truth and show compassion to others. Our inner voice will encourage good intentions and ensure that our actions, no matter how big or small, aim to make the world a better place.
The following paragraph was written by Marianne Williamson and was part of a speech made by Nelson Mandela. It beautifully explains the importance of every individual and is a wonderful reminder that we should not underestimate our own capabilities:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t deserve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so …that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson
